How many GB will GTA 6 be?

Rockstar has not announced a download or install size, and no figure appears on the PlayStation or Microsoft store listings either. The 120GB to 200GB range in circulation is an estimate from commentators, not a specification.

One question, with a deadline attached.
The deadline is the useful half.

How much space?

There is no first-party number and no storefront number. There is not even a partial one: no "approximately", no minimum free space, no per-platform breakdown. If you are clearing a console today you are working without the figure, and every page that hands you one is handing you somebody's arithmetic.

It is worth seeing how little has been said about the technical side of this game at all. One feature list exists, for one console, and it is about controllers and audio rather than storage.

What is settled is the deadline

One week before launch · confirmed

When do I need the space free by?

12 November 2026. Pre-load opens.

A pre-load cannot happen without a download, so a real figure exists — on your own console, whether or not anybody publishes it — from that date. That is one week before release, and it is the practical answer to the question this page is asked.

Confirmed Take-Two Interactive press release /

Can I skip the download by buying it in a shop?

No. The box contains a code, not a disc.

Confirmed Push Square /

Where the real figure appears, and when

Not in a press release · in product metadata

The number will not arrive in an announcement. It appears in the product metadata on the storefront you buy from, because that is the only place it is operationally required — a console has to know what it is about to write to disk before it starts.

  1. The PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings go up with the pre-order announcement. Neither carries an install size, and neither has gained one since.

  2. Pre-loading opens. A pre-load cannot happen without a download, so a real figure exists from this date — on your own console, whether or not anybody publishes it. This is the practical answer to "when do I need the space free by".

    Take-Two Interactive press release

  3. Launch. What lands is the certified package plus a day-one patch, and the free space needed while the console unpacks and applies it is larger again than the finished install.

Stated in first-party material, or shown in official footage. Two attributable sources where possible. Nothing reliable exists. Stated plainly rather than filled with speculation.

Why an estimate from another game measures nothing

A range that cannot be wrong is not telling you anything

A coastal city photographed by us from high altitude at midday: a grid of blocks and waterways under even flat light.

Install size is not a property of ambition, it is a property of packaging decisions: how much audio is shipped for how many languages, how many texture sets are stored uncompressed so they can be streamed quickly, how aggressively the build is packed against how fast it has to load. Those decisions are made late, they are made inside the studio, and none of them has been described for this game.

So an estimate extrapolated from another open-world title is not measuring this game. It is measuring somebody else's compression settings and assuming this one will make the same calls. The 120GB to 200GB range is an estimate from commentators, and that extrapolation is the usual method behind it.

Not even an online mode?

None announced — historically the component most likely to grow an install.

Stated as an absence. Rockstar has never confirmed that a GTA VI online mode exists, is in development, or will follow launch.

There is no per-platform size, no statement about the Series S specifically, and no Xbox technical statement of any kind to set beside the PS5 feature list.

When the figure appears, the blank at the top of this page is replaced with it, its grade moves from unknown to confirmed, and the storefront that published it is named with the date it was read — not "reports suggest". If PlayStation and Microsoft print different numbers, both are printed, because a difference between them is itself information about how the game is packaged.

Until then, the useful adjacent pages are unlock time and pre-load, which carries the same 12 November date from the other direction, and the platform pages for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC picture is emptier still: no system requirements have been published, because no PC version has been announced
