GTA 6 on Xbox Series X and Series S

Xbox Series X|S is one half of a two-platform launch, named in the Take-Two press release that opened pre-orders. Past that, the Xbox side of this game is the less documented of the two: the only technical detail Rockstar has published for any console was written for the PlayStation 5, and it has no Xbox counterpart.

What has been settled

Both consoles · the same day as PlayStation

Is it coming to Xbox?

Yes. Series X and Series S, in one entry.

Every first-party platform line reads Xbox Series X|S — one entry covering both machines. It arrives there on the same day it arrives on PlayStation 5, at the same two prices, through the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and retail.

The two questions the Xbox audience actually arrives with.
Neither has been addressed by anybody first-party.

Is the Series S version cut down?

The Series S is the smaller and less powerful of the two machines, and how large open-world games treat it is a live argument. Rockstar has not entered that argument. It has not said the Series S version matches the Series X, it has not said it is scaled down, and it has published no figure that would let anybody check.

No Rockstar or Take-Two material separates the two machines, compares them, or acknowledges that they are different pieces of hardware. That is not a hint that the two versions are identical. It is the absence of a statement either way — and it is total rather than partial, because nobody outside Rockstar has played this game on any console.

Is it on Game Pass?

Nothing has been said. The announcement that opened pre-orders names storefronts and retailers, and no subscription service of any kind. There is no Microsoft or Rockstar statement about Game Pass and this game to record.

Every announced route to the game on Xbox is a purchase — $79.99 for the Standard edition, $99.99 for the Ultimate, both set out on the price page. Absence is not denial: a Game Pass release has not been ruled out any more than it has been promised. But anyone telling you the game is coming to the service is guessing.

Stated in first-party material, or shown in official footage. Two attributable sources where possible. Nothing reliable exists. Stated plainly rather than filled with speculation.

One feature list, and it is not this one

A marketing arrangement, not a verdict

Sand meeting shallow water, photographed by us from directly above as a tall, evenly toned frame.

Rockstar wrote a technical post about what the game does with PlayStation 5 hardware — the controller, the audio, the SSD — and published nothing equivalent for Xbox.

Read it as a marketing arrangement rather than a verdict: it tells you where a promotional post was placed, and nothing whatever about how the game runs on either Xbox machine. It is still worth noticing, because it is the reason this page has less on it than its PlayStation counterpart.

What technical material exists for any console?

One PlayStation feature list. That is the whole of it.

This is the only first-party technical detail of any kind published so far. No equivalent Xbox feature list has been published.

Confirmed PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored) /

Has anyone outside Rockstar played it?

No. Two trailers, and a third showing scheduled.

Trailer 1 (4 Dec 2023), Trailer 2 (6 May 2025), Extended Look (27 Aug 2026). There have been no press previews, no hands-on events and no gameplay demonstrations at any trade show.

Confirmed Rockstar Games Newswire /

For the parity question to be answered, one of three things has to happen: Rockstar publishes a per-console technical breakdown, the Microsoft Store listing gains real specifications before pre-load, or press outlets are given hands-on time on Xbox hardware. None of the three has been scheduled. The Extended Look is the next occasion on which anything could change, and Rockstar has not said what it contains.

Storage, and the missing size figure

It matters most to the machine with the least of it

No install size has been published, which matters most to Series S owners, who have the least internal storage to clear. Neither storefront listing carries a figure, and the numbers being passed around are commentators' estimates rather than specifications.

The practical answer: the first dependable size figure for Xbox will almost certainly be the one the Microsoft Store shows when pre-load opens, a week before launch. Until then, clearing space is guesswork. The same question across both consoles is on the file size page

Xbox One owners, and the one Xbox-specific figure

One is closed · the other is an outside estimate

Can an Xbox One play it?

No. There is no Xbox One version of any kind.

Stated as an absence: every first-party platform list is current-generation only.

Confirmed Take-Two Interactive press release /

Every first-party platform list names current-generation consoles only. An Xbox One is not a way into this game, and no upgrade path, streaming route or backward step has been announced for one. The position on both last-generation machines is set out on the PS4 and Xbox One page, and the announced platform list in full is on the platforms page

One Xbox-specific figure does circulate, and it is worth knowing exactly what it is: an analyst estimate of how pre-orders split between the two editions, which ran higher on Xbox than on PlayStation. It is an outside measurement of storefront behaviour, not a Rockstar disclosure, and it is graded accordingly.

What are Xbox buyers actually buying?

An analyst puts the Ultimate share near 90 per cent. Not a company figure.

A third-party estimate covering the US and five European markets, roughly 90% on Xbox and 88.5% on PlayStation. Sensor Tower's own analyst expects the share to fall. Not a Rockstar or Take-Two figure.
