Will GTA 6 run at 60fps?

Rockstar has not announced a frame rate, a resolution or a list of graphics modes for Grand Theft Auto VI on any console. The 60fps performance mode being widely reported comes from retailer listings and unverified leaks rather than anything first-party, and the technical analysts who have looked at the trailers are sceptical of it.

How many frames a second?

This is not a case of a figure existing somewhere in small print. There is no first-party number to find: no frame rate, no resolution, no count of graphics modes, and no statement that a performance mode and a quality mode are separate things in this game at all. Anything you read that puts a number on it is reporting somebody else.

A target on a page like this would be a guess wearing a number, and it would be quoted as though it were reported. There is a real cost to that: the figure would be repeated, aggregated, and eventually cited back at us as a source. Why unknown is treated as a publishable answer is set out under how we grade a claim.

Is the PS5 Pro different?

The Rockstar-authored PlayStation.Blog post is the only first-party technical material published. It names five PS5 hardware features and mentions no Pro enhancement, no resolution and no frame rate.

The "PS5 Pro Enhanced" designation people bring to this question is not sourced in this site's fact base at all, and a label is not a specification in any case — it states no frame rate, no resolution and no mode list. The PS5 page takes it apart at greater length.

And the Series S?

Every first-party platform list names Xbox Series X|S as a single entry. The two machines are not equivalent hardware, and they are always named together as one platform. Whether that means matching modes, a lower resolution on the smaller machine, or something else has not been addressed by anyone in a position to know.

The absence of an Xbox feature list to set beside the PlayStation one is itself worth noticing, and it is covered on the Xbox page.

The 60fps claim has two feet, and neither is Rockstar

Rumoured on one side · analysis on the other

Where does the 60fps mode come from?

Retailer listings and leaks. Unverified, and doubted.

Digital Foundry's reading of both trailers is that a 60fps mode is unlikely even on PS5 Pro, with CPU simulation load the likely bottleneck.

Rumoured Notebookcheck (citing Digital Foundry analysis) /

This site records that listings pointing at a performance mode existed and that they are unverified. It does not record which retailer, what the exact wording was, or when the listing changed, because no primary source for that detail has been established — and a claim whose origin cannot be checked is not a claim this site restates in specific terms. The other foot is leaked material, which this site does not treat as evidence about the shipped game and does not reproduce, for the reasons set out on the August 2026 leaks

It is worth being clear about what a storefront listing is as evidence. It is written and maintained by the retailer, not by the developer. A listing is evidence that somebody typed those words into a product page on a particular day. It is not a statement by Rockstar, which is why it cannot carry a grade above rumoured here.

The case against runs the opposite way, and it is not first-party either: the technical analysis reads both trailers as pointing away from 60fps even on the more powerful machine, with CPU simulation load as the likely constraint. That is an informed reading of footage by people who do this well. It is still a reading of footage, and this site does not grade it above the claim it disputes.

What "captured on PS5" does and does not mean

In-game is not gameplay

Our own high-altitude photograph of flat wetland meeting a distant low coastline at midday, taken at the scale a state map is printed at. It is our picture of real ground, not a map of anywhere in the game.

It means the images came out of the engine rather than a render farm. It does not mean the sequence ran at a playable frame rate, in real time, or under player control — Rockstar's own framing separates in-game from gameplay, and what has actually been shown of the latter is on the gameplay page

The five PlayStation features Rockstar has named are a list of hardware the game uses. None of them is a performance figure: haptics and 3D audio tell you nothing about how many frames a second the machine draws.

Was any of it running on the machine?

Trailer 2 was captured in-game on PlayStation 5.

"In-game" is not the same as "gameplay" — the trailer is cinematic, not a gameplay demonstration.

Confirmed GTABase (quoting Rockstar's trailer notes) /

And the feature list?

Five hardware features. Not one number among them.

This is the only first-party technical detail of any kind published so far. No equivalent Xbox feature list has been published.

When a real figure could appear

Two dated events · neither of them a promise

  1. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. Take-Two called it an extended gameplay reveal on its earnings call — a showing of sustained gameplay is the point at which analysts measure frames from the video itself, and the point at which a mode list usually appears in the accompanying material.

Rockstar Games Newswire, 6 August 2026

  2. Pre-loading opens and console storefronts publish their final metadata. That is also the most likely moment for a dependable install size to appear.

    Take-Two Interactive press release, 24 June 2026

Neither event is an announcement of a figure. They are the two occasions on which one could arrive, which is a different and more useful thing to know than a prediction. Until one does, the row stays blank — and at that point it becomes a confirmed line with a date on it, and this page is rewritten the same day.

Details of the showing are on the Extended Look page, and the install size question is on the file size page
