GTA 6 on PlayStation 5

PlayStation 5 is one of the two launch platforms and has been since the platform list was first published. Rockstar has named the PS5 hardware features the game uses; it has published no frame rate, no resolution and no install size, and this reference holds no sourced first-party statement about PS5 Pro.

What has been settled

One machine · one date · one feature list

Is it coming to PS5?

Yes. It is one of the two launch platforms.

There is no PlayStation exclusivity, no timed window and no separate PlayStation date. The same list has named the same two machines since it was first published.

Confirmed Take-Two Interactive press release /

What does it do with the hardware?

Haptics, adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, 3D audio, SSD load times.

Read it for what it is: a list of platform capabilities the game makes use of. It is not a performance specification, it promises no particular quality of implementation, and it contains no number. It is nonetheless the only first-party technical detail published so far about any version on any machine, which tells you how thin the technical record currently is.

Not known

Four questions about the machine the game was built on.
None of them has been addressed.

Is there a PS5 Pro version?

This is the part of the page most likely to disagree with what you have read elsewhere, so it is worth being exact. This reference holds no sourced first-party statement about PS5 Pro at all — no enhancement, no mode, no figure, and no comparison with the base console.

A "PS5 Pro Enhanced" designation is widely repeated. Nothing here sources it, so it is not published as confirmed and it is not published as denied either. If you have seen the label, the useful question is who published it and when — that is the whole of our source policy.

How many frames a second?

No target frame rate, no resolution, and no list of graphics modes on any PlayStation hardware, Pro included. So the base PlayStation 5 and the PS5 Pro are, on the record this reference holds, in exactly the same position: two machines running a game whose performance nobody has described. Anything comparing them is comparing two unpublished numbers.

The full argument, including where the 60fps claim came from, is on frame rate and resolution.

How much space to clear?

Every PlayStation 5 buyer downloads the whole game, including anyone who buys the boxed edition, because the box contains a code rather than a disc. How much space to clear is therefore a real question with no answer.

The practical read: clear the space and start the download the day pre-loading opens on 12 November 2026, because that is the week the download has to happen in. We are watching for a figure on the file size page.

What time does it unlock?

The listing gives a date and not a time. Storefront metadata in several regions points to a local-midnight unlock, but metadata is not an announcement and this reference does not promote one into the other. Tracked on unlock time and pre-load.

Stated in first-party material, or shown in official footage. Two attributable sources where possible. Nothing reliable exists. Stated plainly rather than filled with speculation.

"Captured in-game on PlayStation 5"

The line most often read as a performance statement

Our own photograph of a single cabbage palm against flat bright sky, the trunk running the full height of a tall frame.

It means the images came out of the engine rather than a render farm. It does not mean the sequence ran at a playable frame rate, in real time, or under player control — Rockstar's own framing separates in-game from gameplay.

That distinction is the reason this page carries no performance number of its own. Footage tells you what the engine can produce for a cut; it tells you nothing about what it holds while somebody is driving through it.

Frame rate of the capturenever stated

Was any of it running on a PS5?

Trailer 2 was captured in-game on PlayStation 5.

"In-game" is not the same as "gameplay" — the trailer is cinematic, not a gameplay demonstration.

PS4 owners and the upgrade question

Confirmed · there is nothing to upgrade from

Can a PS4 play it?

No. There is no PlayStation 4 version at all.

Stated as an absence: every first-party platform list is current-generation only.

Confirmed Take-Two Interactive press release /

With no last-generation version there is no cross-generation bundle, no upgrade path and no entitlement carried forward — none of those has been announced because none of them has anything to attach to. Playing on launch day means a PlayStation 5.

What the PlayStation Store listing says

One phrase, consistent across every first-party surface

What is the product, in Rockstar's own words?

A single-player experience.

The most load-bearing piece of wording in the whole marketing campaign. It is a description, not a denial — but it is consistent across every first-party surface.

Confirmed PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored) /

It is a description of what the product is, not a denial that anything else will ever exist. What it is not is an announcement of a multiplayer mode, and it is the reason there is no announced online mode and no announced crossplay to write about here.

Pre-ordering terms are on the pre-orders page. If you find first-party material that settles any of the blanks above, tell us
