Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?

No. Grand Theft Auto VI has been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and no PS4 or Xbox One version exists or has been mentioned by Rockstar.

The answer

Confirmed as an absence · which is a real grade

Can I play it on a PS4 or an Xbox One?

No. There is no last-generation version.

Note how this is graded. It is confirmed, but confirmed as an absence: no first-party document says "there will be no PS4 version", because companies do not usually publish the platforms they are not shipping on. What they publish is the list, and the list is current-generation only, on every surface, every time.

Could a port come later?

Nobody with authority has said a last-generation port will happen, and nobody with authority has said it will not. That is a genuine blank, and it is the only one on this page.

The strongest thing that can be said about it is what has happened to a far more obvious platform. Rockstar has not announced a PC version of a game arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. A company that will not confirm PC — the platform its own history makes most likely — is not a company that has quietly committed to a console two generations back.

Is there a way around it?

Rockstar has named no streaming service, no cloud tier and no remote-play arrangement. Anyone telling you a PS4 will play this over the internet is describing something no one has announced. If a cloud version appears it will be announced on the record, and it will be graded here when it is.

The two announced machines are named in Take-Two's pre-order press release. The two last-generation machines are absent from every first-party platform list, all of which are current-generation only. PC and Switch 2 are absent from the same lists, with no denial attached to either.

Only the last row is genuinely open, and reading the block above from top to bottom is the fastest way to see why "not confirmed" is four different conditions wearing one phrase.

Why the last generation was left behind

Evidence about design, not proof of impossibility

Our picture of a chain-link fence photographed square-on filling a tall frame, scrub behind it in flat light.

This site cannot tell you Rockstar's reasoning, because Rockstar has not given any. It can tell you what the only published technical material says, which is that the game is built around hardware the PS4 and Xbox One do not have: a controller that shipped with the PS5, an audio engine tied to it, and load times tied to a solid-state drive.

That is not proof an older machine could not run some reduced version. It is evidence about what the game was designed against — and the performance question on the announced machines points the same way. A game whose frame rate on a PS5 Pro is a live argument among technical analysts is not a game with obvious headroom on hardware two generations older. Read that as context, not as a calculation: nobody outside Rockstar has run this code on anything.

What was it built against?

A DualSense, an audio engine tied to it, and an SSD.

This is the only first-party technical detail of any kind published so far. No equivalent Xbox feature list has been published.

Does GTA 5 set a precedent?

Two objections · the second one is decisive

What does this reference actually hold about GTA V?

Two dates, and they describe a console-to-PC gap.

Historical precedent only. It says nothing about GTA VI's schedule.

Confirmed PCGamesN /

The argument you will meet is that Grand Theft Auto V spanned console generations, so this one will too. Two things are wrong with it.

The first is that this site does not hold a sourced record of that game's full platform history. Two dates are all the fact base carries, and they describe a console-to-PC gap, not a jump between console generations. Everything else about that release pattern is left out here rather than recalled, because a reference that fills gaps from memory is not a reference.

The second objection is decisive and does not depend on the first: precedent is not evidence. What one game did in the years after its launch tells you nothing about what another game will do, and if it did, the same reasoning would produce a PC version with a date on it — which does not exist either.
