One paragraph of synopsis is the whole published plot

What is it about?

A score goes wrong · a conspiracy across Leonida · no era, no antagonist, no structure

Known — four answers

Rockstar has published a synopsis, two trailers, a set of screenshots and eight short bios. That is the entire body of official story material.

Where is it set?

The fictional state of Leonida, centred on Vice City.

A state, not a city. Five further regions have been named in official material, each with a single line of description and nothing else behind it.

Confirmed PlayStation.Blog (Rockstar-authored) /

Who is writing it?

Not Dan Houser. The first mainline GTA since 1997 without him.

The clearest structural difference between this game and the last one, and the one most often missed in a discussion about the setting.

Confirmed Wikipedia (Grand Theft Auto VI) /

Not known

Three standing questions about the story.
Larger than the synopsis, which is the honest ratio.

What happens after that?

Between them the two trailers establish a geography, a tone, a cast of faces and two licensed songs — which are trailer music and not necessarily the game’s music, a distinction followed on soundtrack and radio. They do not establish a plot.

Rockstar’s note that Trailer 2 was captured in-game means the footage was rendered by the game rather than assembled by a film studio. It does not mean it is a scene you will play, in that order, with that outcome. A trailer is cut to sell a mood, and a shot of two people in a car is not evidence about what happens to them. Our shot-by-shot notes are on Trailer 2.

What year is it?

The trailers read as present-day, and reading a trailer is not a source. The Trailer 2 drop is the largest release of official story material so far — a synopsis, character bios and location pages — and it names no year and no period. Nothing published since has either.

The one thing almost universally assumed about the setting is also, strictly, an inference: that Leonida is a version of Florida. It is recorded here as rumoured, which is what it is.

How is it structured?

Whether you switch between Jason and Lucia freely, whether they are ever separated, whether the story branches — none of it has been described by anybody who would know.

The one piece of first-party wording that points at a single shared story is a marketing line rather than a design statement: the Ultimate Edition is sold as content threaded across “Jason and Lucia’s story”, singular. Treat it as a hint, not as a confirmation. How long any of it takes to play is on how long the game is.

Rockstar’s description of each is one line long, and nothing further has been published about any of them. Where those places sit in relation to each other, and how much ground lies between them, is not known — see the state of Leonida, real-world counterparts and how big is the map.

Stated in first-party material, or shown in official footage. Two attributable sources where possible. Nothing reliable exists. Stated plainly rather than filled with speculation.

A great deal of plot summary exists that Rockstar did not write, and almost all of it descends from those two events. This site describes leaks and grades them. It does not host them: no still, clip, model or line of code from any breach appears anywhere on GTA6Notes, and nothing on this page is derived from one.

Our reading of the recent material is on the August 2026 leaks, and claims that first-party material has actually contradicted are kept, struck through, on debunked claims.

The practical rule for a reader who wants to avoid spoilers: an unattributed plot beat is not a spoiler, because it may not be true. Work-in-progress material describes a game that was still being written, in a build made years before a release that has since moved twice.

What would count as new story information on 27 August: a named antagonist, a stated era, a description of how the two protagonists are handled, or any statement about how the campaign is structured. What would not: more footage of Leonida, however much of it there is. This page will be rewritten in the same week if the showing produces anything first-party — and left exactly as it is if it does not. The showing itself is covered on the Netflix Extended Look.
